5/31/26 New Beginnings

  1. Pastor David said graduation is more than an academic milestone — it’s a spiritual marker of moving from one season into the next. What season do you feel like you’re graduating out of right now, and what’s next?
  2. Matthew 25:23 says faithfulness in small things leads to being trusted with more. What’s one small, faithful step you can take this week toward what God has for you?
  3. Proverbs 3:5-6 says to trust God and not lean on your own understanding. Where do you need to trust His direction instead of trying to figure it out yourself?
  4. Jeremiah 29:11 says God has plans to prosper you and give you hope and a future. How does that promise speak to whatever new season you’re stepping into?
  5. David quoted Mark Batterson: ‘God’s gift to you is your potential. Your gift to Him is how you maximize it.’ What is one gift or potential God has given you that you want to steward better?
  6. Joshua 1:9 says be strong and courageous because God is with you wherever you go. Where do you need that courage as you step into something new?

Here’s something I would like you to know today. Graduation is more than a celebration of academic success. It’s a spiritual milestone also. A spiritual milestone is the defining moment that shapes our mind and our heart. It is a marker on our journey that identifies how far we have come and points in the direction we should go. It is a step into God’s purpose for you. Jesus said to the Apostle John in Revelation 1-8, I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. And as we know in the Greek there, those words Alpha and Omega mean beginning and ending.

Jesus is our beginning and He is our ending. With every ending, I learned this years ago, with every ending there is a new beginning. Jesus is there with us to carry us through to our next graduation. Our next ending and our next new beginning. Today we celebrate not just what you’ve achieved but how God has been with you every step of the way. Whether you realize it or not, He has been and is with you every day, all throughout the day, every place, every conversation, God is always there with you. Every late night, every test, every challenge. These were not just academic moments, they were opportunities for growth, discipline, and trust.

Congratulations, you made it through. There are a couple of key things I would like for us to discuss today about this milestone of graduation. We all celebrate these things throughout the seasons of our life. The first is this, faithful steps. The Bible teaches us that when we are faithful in the small things, God prepares us for greater things. And we see this in Matthew 25 verse 23, and I’m reading this from the NIV version. Matthew 25, 23. His master replied, well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things.

Come and share your master’s happiness. To receive your certificate of graduation, you have to take faithful steps every day. Mr. Zig Ziglar said this, a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Then we get up every morning and we keep stepping. Faithful steps are actions that reflect steadfastness, loyalty, and commitment. It is a willingness to follow the path laid before you, even when faced with challenges or uncertainty. It’s a choice you make every day. As we saw in Matthew 25, 23, scripture emphasizes the value of faithfulness and what we’re entrusted to do.

And again, Paul tells us in Colossians 3, 23, and I’m reading this from the Amplified Classic, Colossians 3, 23. Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily from the soul, from your mind, your will, your emotions. As something done for the Lord, not for men, everything we’re doing, every good thing we’re doing, all that we’re doing to live this life is for God. It’s for His purpose. And as I said, our soul is our mind, our will, and emotions. So God is saying, think it, feel it, choose it, choose to be faithful. Follow me, He says. You see, taking faithful steps often requires courage and trust in the outcome.

Even when the path is uncertain and difficult and you’re looking at it going, God, are you sure? Is this the way you want me to go? See, it involves stepping out into what I call the unknown, trusting that the path chosen will lead to a positive result. As the Lord promises us in Proverbs 3, 5, and 6, and I’m reading this from the Amplified Classic, Proverbs 3, 5, and 6, lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind, and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways, recognize and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

There’s so much in those two verses there, guys. But think about it, what a promise. If we lean on Him, trust in Him, and we’re confident in Him and His Word to us and who He is, and we acknowledge Him and recognize Him, know Him in all of our life, every dimension of it, He will direct and make straight and plain your path. God will show you the way. The Lord, our God, wants to show us the way and walk with us as we go. But wait, this isn’t all there is. This isn’t the finish line. Knowing the path and walking in the path is just the beginning. It is a launching pad into your future.

As I mentioned earlier, graduation marks the end of one season and the beginning of another, a new season. Ecclesiastes 3.1 in the Amplified Classic says, to everything there is a season and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven. A launching pad process provides the insight to equip you by building new habits and understanding, thereby creating an easy transition between existing routines and new behaviors. By walking out Proverbs 3, 5, and 6, God will launch us into the new season. He is prepared for us. He will never leave us. He will never forsake us.

He is always there with us. Earlier, I mentioned that faithful steps require stepping out into the unknown and trusting the path the Lord has shown you. Stepping into the unknown is simply stepping into a new season of possibility, a new season of opportunity, a place you’ve never seen or been before. So, let’s look at that, a new season of possibility. A possibility is a power of being or existing as. It’s a power of happening. It’s a power of becoming. It’s a state of being possible. And God said to him who believes, all things are possible, because with God all things are possible.

We see an example of this in Luke chapter 1, when the angel of the Lord comes to tell Mary, she will be the mother of the Savior of the world. Luke 1, 36 through 38, and this is from the New King James Version. Now, indeed, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is now the sixth month for her, who was called barren. For with God, nothing will be impossible. Then Mary said, behold, the maidservant of the Lord, let it be to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her. Talk about a milestone moment, a graduation to a new season.

Mary believed. She received it. She accepted it and said, yes, with God, all things are possible. This promise to Mary is true for us also. When we trust God and follow His path, nothing will be impossible. A word related to possibility is a word potential. Potential means a capacity to be or become more. This word comes from the word omnipotent, meaning all power and potential, and we’ve seen this throughout Scripture. God is the omnipotent one. He is the one with all power. All potential is within Him, and He has placed within us His power and potential.

We all have within us the potential to be or become more, every person on the planet. Mark Batterson, pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C., and the author of The Circle Maker and many other books, says this, God’s gift to you is your potential. Your gift to Him is how you maximize it. Think about that. God has given you all His power and potential. He’s put it within you, that power to become more, to be more, to be all that He created you to be. Now, your gift to Him is how will you maximize it for Him, for His glory, and you can.

Everything you need to be all that He’s created you to be is already within you. You see, we all have the power of possibility. It’s within us, and as we graduate from one season to the next, we have all we need within us to succeed, to move forward, to make progress, to advance, and be all God created us to be. 2 Peter 1, 3 and 4 in the New King James Version says this, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. He’s given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness by His divine power. Through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. No matter how challenging the journey may be at the moment, God has equipped us with everything we need to push through. As Mr. Ziegler said, we get up every morning and keep stepping. We keep stepping. As Paul said, I press on to obtain. We press in, we press on, we press through so we can press out. But remember, as you move forward, stepping into each new season, the word of encouragement God gave Joshua as he was stepping into leadership after Moses had passed and transitioned into heaven.

The Lord said this to Joshua. Joshua 1.9 in the Amplified. Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. God is with you wherever you go. So be faithful to get up every day and keep stepping. Faithful steps will lead you to your greater purpose. And we are all called to a greater purpose. God is with us. God has equipped us. God has empowered us to graduate into all he has for us. What does he have for us? We are called to a greater purpose. Graduation, from a biblical perspective, is not just about personal achievement.

It’s a spiritual marker. It’s an invitation to step into the next season with God’s purpose. And God has a purpose for all of us. He has called us, invited us, summoned us, positioned us, and appointed us for his intended purpose. Jeremiah 29.11, this is in the NIV. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Guys, those aren’t just words in a book. Those were words that came forth from God’s heart, from his mouth. Know this. God has plans for your life. For every season of life, God has a plan for you.

The apostle Paul expresses this in Ephesians chapter 2, verse 10. I’m reading this from the Amplified Classic, Ephesians 2.10. For we are God’s own handiwork, his workmanship recreated in Christ Jesus, born anew. That we may do those good works which God predestined, planned beforehand for us, taking paths which he prepared ahead of time. That we should walk in them, living the good life which he prearranged and made ready for us to live. Before time began, God had you in mind. He has good works planned for you to do. He has paths he has prepared for you to walk in.

He has a good life made ready for you to live. As we celebrate this season of graduation, let’s determine to walk boldly into what lies ahead of us. God has equipped you for more than a career. He has called you to make an impact. Whether in business, ministry, the arts, education, medicine, government, leadership, or family life, your life is his tool for hope, truth, and love shared in this world. I’ve shared this before, but I want to share it again today. My father taught me this. Life is an adventure. Get up every day and go find yours. You see, all of this will happen.

Just get up every day and keep taking faithful steps into your greater purpose. God will be right there celebrating with you as you graduate into each new season he has prepared for you. Happy graduation. Let’s bow our heads in prayer today. Lord, we come in Jesus’ name to celebrate all of your graduations, Lord. Thank you for these moments of transition that you give us. Thank you for the strength and wisdom you have given us through this journey together with you. As we step into what’s next, help us to walk in faith, pursue your purpose, and reflect your light in all we do to everyone around us.

And we thank you for it. Amen. All right, go step into that new season that God has for you. Pastor Conia is coming with some closing thoughts and a prayer. God bless you. Have a great week. Often we wait for some specific date to start something new, a graduation in this case, or New Year’s, or when school starts. But God’s mercies are new every day. You don’t have to wait for some day on the calendar to walk into something new. He wants you to be reborn, refreshed, renewed every single day. He is new every single day. Father, thank you for this time together.

Thank you, Lord, that you are new every day. Thank you for these moments, Lord, that highlight what you are doing here in the earth. Thank you for being new every single day. We love you, Lord. We praise you, and we are so grateful. In Jesus’ name, amen. Y’all have a great week.
